Residents have raised alarm after reports that Greg Hall has been strimming a designated Local Wildlife Site and protected amenity land in Romiley for the past three days.

The site, which is recognised for its ecological value and importance to local biodiversity, has long been a cherished green space for the community. Despite its protected status, no enforcement or intervention has been made by the council.

The Romiley Gazette has repeatedly sought comment from council officers, local Liberal Democrat councillors, and the Liberal Democrat group itself. To date, no responses have been provided.

Residents point out that concerns about this land have been ongoing. By their count, it has now been one year and twelve days since complaints were first raised with the council, with no apparent action taken during that time.

Campaigners say the lack of response risks undermining public trust in the council’s stewardship of protected green spaces. One resident told the Gazette:

“This is supposed to be protected land. The council has a duty to act, but instead we’ve seen silence. Local people are rightly asking what the point of protections are if they aren’t enforced.”

The Gazette will continue to pursue answers on why no action has been taken, and whether the integrity of this important wildlife site can still be safeguarded.
