Residents in Stockport are urging council officials to take urgent action over the condition of Padden Brook, following growing concerns about tipping and graffitti issues.
Sheila Oliver, a local resident, has written to Stockport Council demanding that a Section 215 notice be issued immediately—a legal measure that can require landowners to tidy up land that is deemed detrimental to the amenity of an area. In a strongly worded email, Ms Oliver questioned why the council had “dragged its feet” on the issue.
Her correspondence was forwarded to Emma Curle, the Council’s Chief Planning Officer, by Vicki Bates, Assistant Director for Governance. Ms Bates confirmed that the matter is now under official consideration as of the 7th of July 2025, although by the end of August 2025 no action has been taken. The LibDem councillors Bresnahan, Roberts, Clark and MP Smart have been informed but also appear to have taken no action.
Local residents have expressed frustration at what they see as delays in addressing the state of the land, a Local Wildlife Site and protected amenity land.
The council has yet to issue a formal statement on when enforcement action, if any, will be taken.
This story is developing, and the Gazette will continue to follow up as the situation progresses.
