Romiley residents are expressing outrage over the apparent destruction of protected amenity land and wildlife habitats at Padden Brook. Evidence submitted by concerned members of the public, including photographs documenting the degradation, appears to have been disregarded by Stockport Council.
According to sources, an email reporting ongoing destruction of the site was deleted unread by the council’s Information Officer, who subsequently described the complaint as “vexatious.” This raises serious questions about how seriously the council is treating concerns about local wildlife and the integrity of protected land.
A local campaigner commented, “If reports of environmental harm are dismissed without review, it undermines public trust and leaves wildlife and green spaces unprotected. How can anyone take claims of ‘vexatious’ seriously when they haven’t even been read?”
The Padden Brook site, valued by residents for its ecological and visual importance, has reportedly suffered significant environmental damage, including tree felling, habitat destruction, and graffiti blights. The lack of formal investigation or acknowledgment by the council has prompted calls for greater accountability and transparency.
The Romiley Gazette will continue to follow this developing story and report on any actions taken by Stockport Council to address these serious environmental concerns.
