25th September 2025
The latest destruction on 23rd September 2025 is shown below, which has left local residents and people who respect wildlife and nature distraught and disgusted.
Councillor Angela Clark has apparently sent an email to the Council’s Monitoring Officer Vicki Bates and to arboriculture officer Peter Pollard, but local people have been emailing and phoning these two since 9th of August 2024 with no success.
These two panjandrums claim the council is powerless to act, but this land is a Local Wildlife Site and protected amenity land. This is the legal position setting out what the council could have done but chose not to.
- Biodiversity Duties
Councils have duties under acts such as the Environment Act 2021 to deliver biodiversity net gain, to protect and enhance biodiversity in exercising their functions. They should consider wildlife and habitats when planning, approving, or enforcing. This can feed into decisions about amenity land / Local Wildlife Sites. RSPB+1 - Wild Bird Habitat Duties
There is a duty on “competent authorities” (which includes local authorities) to take appropriate steps to avoid pollution or deterioration of wild bird habitat, to preserve, manage and re-establish habitat sufficiently large and varied etc. GOV.UK

In addition, LibDem MP Lisa Smart and LibDem local councillors Angela Clark, Mark Roberts and Rachel Bresnahan have done nothing about the rubbish dumped on the Local Wildlife Site/protected amenity land.

We should remember all of the above when they post their leaflets through our doors asking us to vote for them. The question might be – Why?
