Councillor’s 3ft Gulley Clean Sparks Questions Ahead of Werneth Area Committee

By Sheila Oliver — Editor, Romiley Gazette

Cllr Angela Clark clearing gulley

In a recent photo opportunity, Cllr Angela Clark was pictured clearing approximately 3 to 4 feet of a small gulley in Romiley village, posing with a large sod of grass she had apparently removed.

However, residents are asking pointed questions about the exercise — including why only a few feet of the gulley were cleared, whether the effort achieved any lasting improvement, and where the grass in the photograph actually came from.

According to locals, the gulley in question has never had substantial grass growth, and certainly not to the extent shown in the photograph. A second image, taken immediately after the session, appears to show no significant vegetation in the surrounding area, casting doubt on the source of the clump displayed for the camera.

A formal question has been submitted for the upcoming Werneth Area Committee meeting to seek answers on:

  • The purpose of clearing only 3 to 4 feet of the gulley.
  • Whether the work was effective in resolving any drainage or cleanliness issues.
  • The origin of the sod of grass shown in the photograph.

The Romiley Gazette will report the council’s response when received.

Addendum – this question was not answered at the Werneth Area Committee Meeting
