The much-loved woodland area at Padden Brook, Romiley, has now been confirmed as protected under a Woodland Tree Preservation Order (TPO), designated W1 – Padden Brook, Romiley 2023.
This status means that every tree within the defined woodland boundary is protected, regardless of age or species. Even young saplings that grow naturally in the area are covered by the order, ensuring the long-term preservation of the woodland’s character and ecological value.
While this legal protection is an important step forward, the next stage must focus on restoration and replanting. Local residents have long expressed concern about the decline of this treasured site and are calling for a transparent, accountable plan to bring the area back to full health.
It is essential that those responsible for managing the site now demonstrate effective leadership, communication, and environmental commitment. Residents rightly expect public bodies to uphold the highest standards when it comes to protecting our green spaces.
As discussions on replanting move forward, the community hopes to see real action and engagement — not just words — to ensure that Padden Brook remains a thriving woodland for future generations.
