A genuinely thought-provoking question, Sheila. The peerage system and how someone ends up as LibDem Chief Whip in the Lords does deserve more public scrutiny — these are significant roles, funded by the taxpayer, with very little transparency about the selection process. Your Gazette does a real service by asking the questions the mainstream press often glosses over.
