Residents walking along Padden Brook in recent weeks have noticed an unwelcome sight: a new wave of graffiti splashed across walls, fences, and dumped butty vans. What was once a peaceful stretch for dog walkers, joggers, and families has increasingly become a patchwork of spray-painted tags.

The issue of graffiti in Romiley is nothing new. Previous clean-up efforts have often been piecemeal, with volunteers and community groups stepping in where local government has been slow to respond. Critics say that, despite promises, councillors rarely back up words with decisive action.

“Every time residents raise concerns, we get the same response: ‘We’ll look into it.’ But the graffiti keeps spreading,” another local remarked. “It feels like we’re being left to live with it.”

The Gazette reached out to councillors for comment. While some acknowledged the frustration, there was little sign of a coordinated plan to tackle the vandalism or prevent it from recurring.

For now, Padden Brook remains scarred by spray cans and unanswered questions. Will residents’ concerns once again be brushed aside?
