A Romiley resident says she is still waiting for a response from the council more than a year after raising concerns about activity on protected land.

Mrs Sheila Oliver submitted a formal public question to a council cabinet meeting in February 2025 after lodging an official complaint about work being carried out by a landowner on land she believes is protected.

In her submission to the meeting, Mrs Oliver said she had received no response to her earlier complaint and raised concerns that machinery had been brought onto the land.

She claimed the landowner had used a chainsaw on the site and later brought in a bulldozer, which she believes should not be permitted due to the protected status of the land.

Mrs Oliver said local residents had also raised concerns about the activity.

In her question to the council, she asked when she could expect a response or any form of action.

She wrote:
“Local people have complained and still the councillors do nothing. When can I expect any kind of response or even action?”

However, more than a year after the question was submitted, Mrs Oliver says she has still not received any reply.

The council’s public question process allows residents to raise issues directly with council meetings, but Mrs Oliver says she remains frustrated that the matter appears to have gone unanswered.

Residents say they are concerned about what they believe to be activity taking place on protected land and are calling for clarity from the council.

At the time of writing it is not clear whether the council has investigated the allegations.

The Gazette has contacted the council for comment.
