Residents in Romiley are growing increasingly frustrated as concerns over Padden Brook continue to go unanswered. While there have been plenty of photo opportunities for Lisa Smart MP and public visits elsewhere, many here feel that their voices are still not being heard.
This week saw another round of well-publicised engagements — meeting Max, a greyhound who has thankfully found safety after mistreatment, speaking with the Blue Cross about animal welfare, visiting the North West Ambulance Service to talk about paramedic support, and attending a Westminster meeting on dementia care. All worthy causes, residents agree — but questions remain about why long-standing local issues such as Padden Brook are still being left unaddressed.
For months, local people have been calling for action over the state of Padden Brook, which has faced destruction and environmental concerns. No visible progress has been made, and no clear plan has been shared with the community.
“It’s not that we don’t care about animals or ambulance services,” said one resident. “But we’ve been raising the same problems for over 14 months, and all we get are more photos and visits elsewhere. We need real answers, not more publicity.”
Many now want to see the same energy and attention directed toward local environmental and infrastructure issues that affect residents day to day. Until then, frustration over Padden Brook looks set to keep bubbling beneath the surface.
